Jules' Quote Picks

People who give and are involved in a purpose that is greater than themselves are the happiest people and live the richest and most meaningful lives imaginable...

Jules @ 28Jan2010

Halloooooooooo...hope everyone's good and that the new year has been good too so far... :)

These days, with my 3 goons having grown more boystrous and having minds of their own, it's very hard to steal time to update JulesMD...! Everytime I sit at my work table, the 2 younger goons will come, jump on my lap, and insist that they help or see what I'm doing... "nak tolong mommy buat kerja...". Sigh, but I just don't have the will to resist those big, innocent eyes...! So, I'd end up entertaining them : listen to them sing the new songs they learnt in school, hearing them count and spell... Sigh... sucker me!!! But, that's what I resigned from work for, to have more time for my darlings... So, that's what I must make time for, my "harta dunia akhirat" :). Only Esfahan would be upstairs minding his own business; well, he is in Std3 already, I suppose, it'd be weird if he too jumped onto my lap and sing songs! Hehe... But, sometimes, I wish, they didn't grow up too fast....

Anyways, here are my latest updates :

Thanks Ave...it's always a joy to make things for little girls!

Latest baking pan for JulesFudgy...it's KitchenAid!!! A real catch you know, I almost freaked out in jubilation when I found this, hehe... Hope you like... :)... Oh, but there are only 20pcs available...

I always try my very best to make the most meaningful gift/presentation for my clients, insyaAllah...so, I hope I've been able to add joy and cheer to their lives... :)

To all Jules family, friends and patrons, though I don't write/update as often as I used to, I'd like all of you to know that I truly, truly value your support and encouragement. And I make it my personal goal to continually improve myself and all Jules products/stuff to better meet your needs and requirements :)

I have not written anything about the latest devastation in Haiti, but, like many others around the world, my heart goes to the quake victims. And, with your continued support, I have been able to contribute to their needs accordingly, and also to the other efforts that I pledge to, ie. gaza, cancer, underprivileged children/families...insyaAllah... Sincerly, thank you...

Jules Fondants

For the very first time in my life, and in my entire baking life, I made fondant. I can't believe it myself, but apparently, I made fondant. !!!...Alhamdulillah... And I learnt it from YouTube! There's a lot more to improve on of course, ie. texture, taste, but I actually did it. Wiz, thanks for your encouragement, I hope your son gets well soon; Maria Waheeda Astuty, all the best, I pray you have a safe delivery :)

...And most importantly, thank you very much Kak Gie, for this opportunity, and for trusting me with something so important... :)

"Get Broke For Charity!"

That was the Soroptimist Ampang's tagline at the recent bazaar. I forgot to mention in my earlier post that this year, the club's aim is to raise funds to help underprivileged families around the country. The money raised from the bazaar, for example, will be channeled to targeted families, to assist them with their everyday needs. RM450.00 from 46 participants may seem like a big amount, but if we really look at a family's daily needs, this total amount may only last for a few months, or just 'ngam-ngam', without any spare for frills.

Sometimes, some people think that people become underprivileged because they are too lazy or too pathetic to help themselves. Well, they have the right to their own opinions. But I personally believe that God is great and most fair, and when He created/s all the different people in this world, He would have had a role and purpose for each and every one of us. And I do believe that it is in His grace that He bestows upon some of us with great fortune and some with mighty challenges. We just have to look carefully to/and see...

I try my best to do as much good in this life, InsyaAllah, well, at least, what I believe is good...! Hehe... So, I'll try to link/share any charity events that come my way and hope that they will help to spread greater love and respect among mankind...

Jules WIP for Feb2010

Haloooooooooooooooooooooo.........

Alhamdulillah, the charity bazaar at Great Eastern Mall last weekend, organised by the fab ladies of Soroptimist International Club Ampang, went very well, and I can't be more pleased with the very encouraging response I received... :) Thank you all Jules family, friends, patrons, and new friends & patrons!

But, soon as the bazaar ended, I was back to mommy duty, nursing, and doctoring, my sick boys, who, to the naked eye looked far from sick - jumping and running around without any care in the world. Oh, but they were unwell : Damascus had right middle lobe pneumonia while Esfahan and Marrakesh were developing the same thing. Fortunately mommy had taken them to good old Doc V in the nick of time! We escaped hospitalisation only on the basis that the boys were not having fever or constant vomitting. So, with 6 types of meds to be ingested and 2 inhaled, mommy was strictly round the clock with all 3 boys, not to mention physio.

Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, Esfahan had very bad food poisoning on Tuesday and he spent a good 5 hours just throwing up all the isotonic, hydration salts and young coconut water that mommy gave! Poor thing, he was almost like an old kitchen rag, until dear old ayah took him to the doc's. After some colimix, Esfahan stopped vomitting and managed to fall asleep, exhausted from all that vomitting and purging. He woke up about 2 hours later asking for KFC! So, phewh, alhamdulillah, that ended well.

Today, after 4 days of mc, all 3 boys are back in school, and I have about 20 minutes more before my second chauffer duty of the day.

It has indeed been a very challenging few days, with huge backlogs in Jules. I have some WIPs for February, namely Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, and my big 40(!), which I am crazily itching to share with you, but they have yet to be fine tuned before the actual reveal... And, my APPLE plate is almost coming to the end of its debut, thanks to all wonderfully loyal patrons of Jules - the next few hours will be a baking marathon! :)!

And, all those fab folks who got my Jules Reusable/Shopping Bag at the recent bazaar, I hope you utilise it well; please remember to have it with you everytime you're out shopping ya... :)

A piu tardi... ciao ciao e molto grande bacione... :)

Happy New Year!

Assalamualaikum, selamat sejahtera, selamat tahun baru! Happy first day of school :)!

First and foremost, my deepest and most sincere apologies for the ever so long silence. Nope, there's really no solid excuse, but seriously, I was truly and totally occupied with my 3 goons and their activities during the past school holidays. Plus, weddings, new babies, passings... But I must say, that I had completely drowned myself into my 3 darlings. I didn't send them to daycare coz it was school holidays and I just didn't have the heart to, but it also meant no time at all for mommy...

I had actually composed a nice new year greeting in my head and was all ready to post it on new year's eve, when the worst news reached me. A dear friend had died in a car accident just the night before. The news shook me, and suddenly I was numb and I just went blank. She was 36, and her eldest boy is my Esfahan's age, while her second girl is about as old as Damascus. Her husband used to share a flat with my darling spouse during their single days, and we all had gotten married around the same time. We didn't hang out together all the time coz we lived in different areas, but we were close. The kind of closeness where you can just drop in on them whenever you're in their area, it was like a kinship. It was very sad for me...for all of us...and it hit me real bad...

Well, life's like that, huh?

Anyway, during the school break, I had also been busy with brownie stints at Astro, brownies for Christmas and new year, gifts, birthday favors, wedding favors, etc. All this I did on my own, among the routine housekeeping, laundry, chauffering, the occasional cooking, entertaining goons, entertaining goons, and entertaining goons! So, any chance I got for myself, I spent catching up on sleep or Lipstick Jungle!

But today, a friend wrote on my FB wall, asking me why I hadn't posted any entry on Jules for so long. So, I guess, it's about time I did something. As I'm running up and down chasing the laundry and my youngest goon, who has trouble sleeping without "mommy garu, mommy gosok, mommy tepuk", I think the best way for me to do this is in point form, starting with the latest... And, bearing in mind that Jules will hit her big 40 this February, some promotions will be done in the 40's too :)!

1) Jules will be selling brownies, tins and boxes at the Charity Bazaar by Soroptimist International Ampang, 8 & 9 January 2010, 10am to 8pm, Great Eastern Mall Jalan Ampang. Come and see the latest in Jules Fudgies, Jules Tins&Boxes and her latest effort towards preserving the environment...Jules Shopping Bag, free for the first 40 customers, and consequently for purchases above RM40!!!

2) Jules is also in the midst of trying to create her own independent URL...hopefully it all works out before the big 40!

3) Jules Fudgyliciousness this January 2010 will be presented with a gorgeous apple shaped platter : An apple a day keeps the doctor away! Definitely a great way to kick off the year... :) Only 40pcs available starting today, 4 January 2010. Also available during the charity bazaar at Great Eastern Mall, as above. And despite the increase in the price of sugar, Jules still maintains her fudgies at RM40/fudgy.

4) Just sharing, on environment friendly efforts : Since I have been "helpless" at home, no more day maid to help me with my daily routines, I have successfully managed my garbage more efficiently by reducing it by more than half. I now carefully segregate recyclable paper, plastic, glass and aluminium into their own individual bins, while I only use M size biodegradable garbage bags for my normal domestic waste, which I need not put out everyday, but every 2 days! Then every fortnight my boys and I will diligently go to the recycling centre in front of Tesco Ampang to do the responsible thing. We normally sell our old newspapers to the uncle who comes around our taman on his tricycle, but sometimes we send them to the Tesco recycling centre also.
...these are simply fab recycle-friendly bins by the "simplehuman" brand...

5) Some projects during the school holidays

Gucci's wedding favors...

Emi's engagement gift...

A day at Petrosains...

Ex Georgians mini reunion...

Linda's 2 recipe platter for her office's new year party...

6) Some pix from my Bali holiday with the men in my life... :)

Alhamdulillah, I have been enriched in so many ways last 2009. Thank you Jules family, friends and patrons, with whom my life has become more colourful, meaningful and worthy. As I approach 40, and with my new multifocul lenses, I hope to gain as much enrichment, if not more, in this 2010... And I wish all of you much success, good health and happiness... InsyaAllah... :)
