Bhaktapur. I imagined something of a classic literature, a vibrant city in its heyday, where a sweet voice filled the serene air with melodic incantations, an enchanted city with ornate wood and stone carvings, where beautiful blue coloured birds lined the gardens and courtyards and people went around in rich hues of silk and pashmina...
The sound of the name, the heavy emphasis on the "b" and the "h" and the purr at the end, Bhaktapur exuded a rustic ancient feel of everything in it. One of Nepal's 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Bhaktapur Durbar Square is the country's oldest and best kept medieval city. The city was busy, yes, with motorbikes beeping left right centre, but somehow it was quaint, with an old world charm, I immediately fell in love with Bhaktapur, just like I had with Gubbio in Italy.
The famous 55 Window Palace...my dream house would have this :)
Bhaktapur Durbar Square with the Golden Gate on the left...
Pottery Square...
To be continued... :)
